My bestfriend's wedding
Having been categorised as insane for going to Korea for a weekend, I arrived at Incheon airport. It was really nice for Tae’s parents to pick me up and accompany me to dinner even though they are clearly very tired from the wedding preparation.
On Sunday we woke bright and early at 5am and headed for the all encompassing salon. It is a makeup heaven, makeup for hair, make up for face, make up for nails…Apparently my hair’s falling out more than normal and should undergo hair follicle treatment before I turn bald.
The wedding was very swift, in and out in three hours. I caught the bouquet, in Korean tradition, the one person who is designated to catch the bouquet usually already made plans to get married in the next 6 months.. No wonder Tae’s friends kept on congratulating me. The added comoplexity to the tradition is that, if one doesn’t managed to get married in the next 6 months, then one will not get married for another 6 years. 6 years it is for Annie then.
After the wedding Tae jetted off to Guam, whilst Annie started a one man adventure around Seoul. It’s amazing how I managed to go to so many places in one night – the Gyeongbokgong, where I met the strangest American Korean woman who came from California because she wanted to see snow. Wouldn’t it be easier to go somewhere in America or Canada??…Ssaziegil was such a little romantic street, with people in pairs walking around hand in hand in snow. I managed to locate Yetchatjip, a little teashop at the hideaway streets of Isadong, decorated with vintage furniture and Korean scrolls on the ceiling. Potty trained budgies and assortment of teas add to the authenticity of the little cove. Jogyesa had the cutest Buddhist Buddha, and the Cheonggye stream was adoringly lit up with spotlights in the cold night. The next morning before my 12 hour journey back to UK, I went to Geodong Market, and the strong smell of ginseng was prominent from the tubestation! Hopefully through breathing in the fumes I could take off some years.
It’s been such an amazing weekend away. After seeing Tae getting married (and crying..her brother probably thinks I’m a freak…) I am all inspired, and I hope everyone finds love and happiness, forever and ever.
